WHAT IS THE ATOS METHOD?

The ATOS METHOD consists of 6 short mental exercises that activate and harmonize the neurons of the neocortex of the brain. Through this, physical and mental processes can regain balance, which creates positive short-term and long-term effects.

The ATOS METHOD is comparable to the tuning process of a small orchestra/sextet, whereby each instrument is individually tuned and then all instruments are harmoniously coordinated with one another so that all individual parts are ready to play as a one.

In short: The ATOS METHOD

  • improves concentration and attention
  • de-stresses
  • promotes physical and mental  regeneration and performance-capability through balancing the limbic system and the states of the autonomic nervous system (ANS)

A LITTLE MORE DETAILED:

ATOS stands for Non-suggestive Autogenic Training (derived from german Autogenic Training Ohne Suggestion)

ATOS are 6 short mental exercises designed to activate and harmonize the cerebral cortex. This allows both physical and mental processes to re-balance, which in short- and long-term creates different positive effects.

The method can be used in virtually all life situations. Once the exercises have been understood and internalized, they can be practiced effectively within a few minutes.

The basic principles of the ATOS METHOD are based on scientific findings and research results from psychology and neurology. A scientific study has examined and confirmed the effects of the method.

THE FOLLOWING POSITIVE EFFECTS ARE ACHIEVED:

  • Entry and activation of an optimal state of consciousness
  • Rationalization of the consumption of energy-resources of the body
  • Strengthening of the immune-system
  • Activation of those resources that are needed for an upcoming activity
  • Acceleration of personal development
  • Improved sensory perception
  • Maintaining emotional stability
  • Increased activity and blood flow to the brain, which can delay neuronal aging processes and prevent degenerative diseases.
THE ATOS EXERCISES HAVE 2 OBJECTIVES:

Activation of balancing processes

The ATOS METHOD harmonizes the functioning of the limbic system and the sympathetic and parasympathetic states of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). This removes any existing blockages of these states, which gives body and mind the chance to balance themselves and return to their optimal state.

The organism gets the chance to activate its self-healing powers and regenerative processes in order to promote health.

In addition, emotional stability and resilience are strengthened.

Improvement of mental functions

In the long term, practicing the ATOS exercises leads to an improvement in the ability to concentrate and perceive. This also increases mindfulness.

Good attention and concentration are particularly desirable in everyday life, as they enable efficient learning, better memory and the activation of creative potential.

E.g. high-performance athletes use “mental training” to put themselves in an optimally concentrated and performance-ready state in order to achieve peak performance.

Masters of meditation also gain an excellent ability to concentrate through their practices. This is the basis for their extraordinary abilities.

ATOS METHOD CAN BE USED FOR THE FOLLOWING INDICATIONS:
  • Psychosomatic disorders

  • Constant stress

  • Object dependencies (e.g. cell phone addiction or digital media)

  • Substance addictions

  • Burnout prevention and treatment

In combination with other psychotherapeutic procedures, the ATOS METHOD consolidates the therapeutic results achieved.

The ATOS METHOD can also be used to prevent relapses of mental illnesses/crises.

ORIGINS OF THE ATOS METHOD

The ATOS METHOD is the result of many years of work of Prof. Dipl. Psych. Milenko Vlajkov. It was developed from the realization that relaxation techniques only have very limited applications and that their long-term use often causes more harm than benefit.

To explain this, again the image of a musical instrument can be used:

The human stress-reaction is like the string of a musical instrument. To create a harmonious sound, you need exactly the right tension. If the tension is too high, it will sound painfully sharp or even worse the string will tear apart. If it is too relaxed – there is no tension – no sound can be generated and its impossible to play.

Relaxation techniques initially offer relief in severe stress conditions, but in the long run they lead to a lack of motivation and a reduction in resilience.

The ATOS METHOD overcomes these limitations of relaxation techniques. The ATOS exercises create a slight but beneficial physical and mental tension – a state between stressing-out (too much tension) and complete relaxation (too little tension). In this state, serenity and calmness arise, but at the same time body and mind also become awake and active.

As a result a person is in an optimal state to respond to environmental requirements and to use their own energy in such a way that only as much energy is used as the current task requires – no more, but no less.
